Talking about boudoir sessions can be tricky. I hear it all the time, “But I would just look silly, I don’t know how to be sexy.”  Whether the session is just for you or as a gift to your significant other, a boudoir shoot has everything to do with celebrating who you are. The only way you will look “silly” is if you don’t allow yourself to have fun! I want to share with you three of the most telling questions I have gotten about boudoir sessions:

Sanford Boudoir Photography Studio-01

How do you create a comfortable environment for your client?

I’ve found a few ways to help put my clients at ease.  First, I try to help out as much as possible before the session by helping to pick out the outfits, taking the time to get to know them, along with sharing tips to help make the best session possible.  Every session includes a professional hair and makeup styling, this gives the client an extra boost of confidence right from the start. Before we get started I make sure to fill the studio with their favorite music and hand them a glass of champagne, both really help with the butterflies!

How do you assure a client that each shot portrays confidence during the session?

I typically start with the outfit that I think they will feel the most comfortable in, this allows the client a chance to ease into the session. While in the first outfit I start to get a feel of what seems to feel the most natural for the client and note what poses and angles work well. I’m reassuring the client and talking them through poses throughout the whole session. Sometimes I will even share a photo or two off the back of camera so they see they are doing a great job.

How do you help them to unlock their sexiness?

I encourage them to be themselves… If they want to smile I suggest they smile, or laugh, or be sexy but most of all be confident with who they are right now!  Like I said, whether the session is for the client or for their significant other the point is to celebrate the client as they are and I want them to know that.

These questions are similar in root, how can an almost stranger become comfortable in front of the camera? The answer is relatively simple, embrace what feels good to you and the moments captured look natural. When you feel good you will look confident, guaranteed! These central Florida natives, Ashley and Thad, are a sweet couple who meet in high school. As their wedding day approached we got together to capture their engagement photos. With their love for the outdoors it was an obvious choice to capture their photos at Wekiwa Springs State Park under the shade of Florida pines. I love the romantic warmth of their golden hour photos.

How he proposed:

Family is extremely important to us, so he knew he had to incorporate them into the whole ordeal. My parents are divorced, so he asked each of them separately for permission. Even though my dad made jokes about saying no, they both gave him their blessing. We hosted thanksgiving for both sides of our family at our home this year. I had recently brought home my newest horse, Luna, and everyone was gathered around by her pasture while I fed her some carrots. I had had a couple of glasses of wine so I didn’t realize everyone was forming a half circle around me. Thad told me he needed to ask me something and when I turned to look at him, he was on one knee. It was so sweet and perfect and I couldn’t have asked for more. The proposal happened at Sean’s sister’s house in Charlotte, NC. Sean and Taylor had been planning for a few months to go down and meet their newborn niece. Before dinner Sean’s sister sent them on a fake errand to buy some diapers. When they got back, Sean stopped Taylor at the door and told her that loved her. As they walked though his sister’s front door Sean dropped to one knee and asked Taylor to marry him in front of both of their families.

“How I didn’t know it was gonna happen is beyond me! All the clues were there and I was blissfully naive!”

Taylor said that it was hard to communicate about wedding plans with her and Sean in Washington DC, her mom is in California and the wedding being in Florida. But even so their big day was stunning.

At the beautiful 44-acre Bellemoor Plantation, Sean and Taylor enjoyed the wonders of an outdoor wedding and were surrounded by the natural Florida scenery on their wedding day.

Taylor was gorgeous in her 20’s inspired bohemian styled ivory lace Yolan Cris dress. The halter neck and flare of fringe radiated a fun and romantic Gatsby energy.

Their ceremony was under a clear frame tent under the sprawling oak trees of Bellemoor Plantation. During their portraits we captured their excitement for the day and love for each other at a variety of charmingly lush locations.

The reception took place under a white pole style tent. The tables were draped with champagne silk linens and topped with berry toned floral arrangements. Taylor incorporated lots of brass, mercury glass, and candle sticks as additional décor on the tables and in the lounge area. The candle sticks added pops of gold and black. The reception décor was envisioned and created by Taylor and her best friend.

Taylor was excited to share her love of collecting matchboxes with her guests by placing a personalized box at each place setting. After dinner the band played and the party went on into the night.

Taylor and Sean made their sparkler grand exit with their guests waving goodbye as they road off in an antique car.

Michael and Shelby are the sweetest couple. I am so glad I was asked to capture their wedding day. Their celebration was a classically romantic affair with red and white roses. With a flare of timeless inspirations, the decor was cozy with candle light and a touch of sparkle.

Her dress was a satin, strapless empire waist with a sweetheart neckline and a beautiful bow gracefully laid on the back. The full skirt and chapel train made for a silhouette fit for a princess. Shelby said that the rotunda at Lake Mary Events Center felt like the ballroom from Belle and the Beast, which was perfect for her and Michael’s vision for their day.

The perfect “aisle moment” can bring tears to any eye, but the anticipation can be overwhelming for many couples. So for those couples like Michael and Shelby who wanted the “aisle moment” those moments talking, touching, and reassuring one another during the first touch are precious. We found the perfect spot to take pictures with them touching hands from either side of a door. Just being able to say hello and hear each other’s’ voice beforehand can make all the difference.

The ceremony was a traditional Jewish ceremony performed by a rabbi under a chuppah. They hired a harpist for the ceremony music. At the end, Michael smashes glass and everyone cheered mazel tov!

It was then time for the reception, Michael and Shelby wanted it to be a fun party to celebrate their amazing day with everyone they love. So many of their friends and family love to dance, making the reception very important. Because how often do you get to have a huge party with all of your favorite people!? They kicked off the dancing with the hora! Michael and Shelby were lifted in chairs while everyone danced around them.

I hope you enjoy the details of their day as much as I do!

Sam and Shane had a beautiful and intimate Brevard Zoo wedding. Their guest list totaled at about 60 people. They made their wedding a weekend event, inviting their family and friends to travel on Friday. Saturday morning they held a rehearsal at the zoo and then spent the day enjoying the sights and animals. That evening they had a BBQ and bon fire at Sam’s parents house so that guests from both sides could meet.

They choose to have both their ceremony and reception at the Brevard Zoo. With a shared love of animals and their memory of visiting the zoo soon after moved there, the zoo was the perfect venue for Sam and Shane. It is such a beautiful and unique location, and capturing their wedding day was so fun!

Sam was beautiful in her soft white, A-line corset gown with lace appliqués and an embellished belt. She finished her bridal look with a chapel length train. For the reception her gown was styled with a French bustle.

For their first look, they met on the boardwalk. Sam walked up quietly to surprise Shane. After a long embrace they read each other personally written vows, which were sealed with a kiss.

Then the bride and groom walked down the aisle together to share the ceremony with their guests. Sam and Shane gave each other engraved rings, and then sealed their vows with pinky promise. They continued with a wine box ceremony before the final kiss!

Their wedding colors were blush, ivory, forest green and gold. From ceremony to reception they used a mixture of natural, and elegant elements. While we took just married portraits, the guests were invited to enjoy cocktail our on the patio with vintage furniture with rustic accents. They guests experiences close animal encounters when Zoo staff members escorted animals to the cocktail hour. (So cool!!)

They welcomed guests with a globe as their guest book. They also had a photo booth inside with a lace backdrop and vintage pieces for props. For favors they put together animal cracker filled mason jars with blush ribbons.

Sam and Shane shared a private last dance while guests were lined up outside for the sparkler exit!
